Synergy is not a strategy, and other things I learned in a leadership offsite.
Trust falls, vision boards, and a facilitator named Chad.
The offsite began, as all offsites do, with a slide titled “Why We're Here.” Nobody knew.
By lunch we had aligned, leveraged, and circled back. By three o'clock we had a mission statement so broad it could describe a bank, a bakery, or a small religion.
Leadership isn't vocabulary. It's making a decision and owning it when it goes sideways. Somewhere in the breakout session, I think Chad agreed with me. Hard to say. He was holding a beanbag.
